The Student Engagement and Retention Adviser will engage with and develop productive, positive and success-orientated outcomes with individual students and their departments in pursuit of achieving a degree in a timely way.

Providing initial advice and support to students identified via direct or secondary engagement, you will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including listening skills, empathy and judgement. You will also need to build strong relationships with departments and other support staff or external agencies in order to identify and refer students where appropriate. With strong IT skills, you will utilise data emerging from the SAM (Student Attendance Management) system to identify, support and refer students, where appropriate, requiring the ability to use up-to-date data in a timely and effective way.

The postholder will also help develop a long-term, ‘full-student journey’ strategic approach in support of increasing student retention in partnership with other parties, communicating roles and responsibilities of post holders in the retention and engagement of students and ensuring colleagues understand how they fit into the wider support for the student.

Informal enquiries are welcomed by Dave Corcoran, Director of Students, Support and Information Services via email at D.Corcoran@chi.ac.uk.

This position requires a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check, which will be undertaken by the University on appointment.

The University of Chichester embraces all forms of diversity and aspires to be a fully inclusive and representative employer and so we encourage applications from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic people.
