The Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries (CCI) is looking to recruit a talented and dynamic postdoctoral researcher in the creative technologies. The researcher will work on project PONToon (Partnership Opportunities using New Technologies to foster sOcial and ecOnomic inclusioN) funded by INTERREG 5A. A PhD degree and relevant research experience are required. 

The Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries, University of Portsmouth is a dynamic working environment, with a wide range of teaching, research and innovation activities across many subject areas.

The PONToon project is an EU Interreg 5A funded project awaiting application outcome, starting early 2017 if succesful. The University of Portsmouth, Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries, is lead partner in this three and a half year project with total budget of €5.8 million. This partnership has a diverse mix of 11 UK and French partners, including institutes of higher education, local public authority, education and training centres, sectoral agencies, NGOs and business incubation units that can serve a multifaceted user group and engage a wide range of stakeholders to create a partnership greater than the sum of it’s individual parts.

PONToon will employ digital technologies in order to provide equal access to training and employment services and respond to the digital skills shortage that exist across all sectors, creating multi-pronged benefits for both the end user and service providers, and employs an innovative co-creation methodology. The project will target socially excluded women who are disadvantaged by their gender, have challenges such as lone parenthood, mental/physical health issues and restricted mobility and are often combined with a lack of key soft skills that could benefit from digital upskilling.

This position is for an experienced creative technologist with a PhD in a related field. We particularly welcome candidates with expertise in virtual reality, gaming, augmented reality, digital media and an interest in applying these skills for social good. Clear evidence of leadership will be advantageous. The successful candidate will be expected to lead creative technology developments within the PONToon project and will have the opportunity to develop their own ideas within the project.

The start-up package includes the salary, studio and equipment access and office space.

Short listed candidates will be asked to provide:

a summary of the applicant’s future research plans (2 pages) including potential for prospective collaboration with particular groups within the Faculty.

a summary of proposed Masters and PhD-training in bioinformatics
